News for 2023.

CRAFT FAIRS.

In May this year I was delighted to meet  friendly and enthusiastic art and craft lovers at the ART IN ANCRUM weekend. Thank you to all those who either bought my work or stopped to chat, it certainly made the time fly, and the outdoor marquee seem less cold!

Because of this exposure, I was also lucky to meet two gallery owners, and am very happy to say I now have work for sale at THE FIRST GALLERY in Coldstream ( hastingsfirst.com) and THE TORRANCE GALLERY in Edinburgh (torrancegallery.co.uk) Both galleries are beautiful spaces with a rich variety of contemporary work and are a treat to visit if you haven't already!

I will also be returning to Kelso in November of this year and looking forward to meeting friends and supporters at this excellently organised event in the company of other Borders arts and crafts makers.

TEACHING.

In 2023 I won’t be running  any long courses, but  instead am offering two intensive Saturday workshops.  The first of these will focus on making, with some greenware decoration; the second day will focus on  bisque decorating and prep for final firing  in my electric kilns which you would pick up at a later date, and reduction firing  outside in my raku kiln, which will be a live event and you will be able to take home that day!

I want specifically to look at processes which I haven't taught before so this could be of interest to past pupils as well as new ones. The making part will involve carving into plaster moulds which I will be constructing especially for the course and which will belong to you afterwards.

We will then make pieces from your moulds using slipcasting and press moulding techniques. We will be looking at the decorating method of terra sigillata, first used by the Romans and Egyptians, which allows a piece to be highly polished and fired without using a glaze.  The work will all be fired in preparation for the following weekend's final finishes in underglaze or low firing raku treatments.

The dates would be the 17th and 24th of June, from 10.00am - 4.00pm with breaks for refreshments (bring your own packed lunch or I could provide soup and oatcakes t.b.a.) The charge for the two day course would be £180, inclusive of clay, glaze, and firing costs and there will be a max number of six in the class. If there are more than six people who wish to take part, I will arrange a repeat course for the autumn to be held on the 16th and 23rd of September.

I won't be teaching throwing on these days, but if anyone is interested in one to one lessons or sharing with one other person at some other time, please  let me know. The charge for solo lessons is £30 per hour inclusive of materials and firing, or £20 per person if sharing with one other.
