In 2016 I was delighted to win a commission to design the New Music Scotland Awards. My idea was to inscribe a section of the sound waves of each winning piece into a bowl designed to look like a clarinet or trumpet. The bowls were to be black, which represented the vacuum of space, with the sound waves  reaching across and out into the universe.

I had a very short period in which to develop the idea and make the seven bowls, but  it was such a pleasure meeting all the musicians who had won an award and to see that they all enjoyed their designs. Since that time I have added  black porcelain to my materials kit, as it has similar throwing and tactile qualities to white porcelain but makes such a dramatic statement in its presence.
